The third Youth Caucus Business Meeting had a more relaxed atmosphere than the second. The agenda was significantly more relaxed due to the much smaller feeling of urgency. Nothing on the agenda was coming up during plenary the next day. A second reason was that many fewer people attended. The meeting began with a representative** of the Youth Advisor Task Force speaking to the group about what the YATF does. His words were greeted with exhaustion deadened enthusiasm as many of the youth were tired from staying up for the wake-a-thon.
The youth then moved on to discuss positions that would be up for election at future business meetings. These include Board of Trustees observers and the Working Action Manager (see the "Working Action -- Getting Youth Involved in General Assembly" workshop at www.uua.org/ga/ga00/232.html ).
Finally the youth underwent a consensus process in order to decide on the Working Action Issue (WAI) for the upcoming year. After brainstorming, a single speaker was chosen for each listed topic. Then a vote was taken to discover which of the topics held the most interest for the youth. Finally the youth reached consensus on a single topic, so the WAI for 2000-01 is Prison Reform.
