Carole Etgler kicked off the workshop with a rousing rendition of the song she wrote, "Standing Before Us," which gave Dorothy Emerson's anthology its name. After a general introduction by Emerson, six contributors to the Standing Before Us anthology introduced the lives and works of women featured in the book. Victoria Weinstein spoke on Mary Wollstonecraft; Joan Goodwin, on Lydia Maria Child; Paula Capestick, on Frances Dana Gage; Jan Bowering, on Clara Barton and Olympia Brown; Sarah Barker-Braun, on Phebe Caffin Hanaforn; and Dorothy Emerson on Frances Ellen Watkins Harper. All of the women featured in the anthology were Unitarian or Universalist reformers in one or more fields. The anthology was published by Skinner House earlier this year and is available through the UUA Bookstore.
