Child Dedication Services
by Rev. Elizabeth Strong

In our service of dedication we give this child a flower as a symbol of the beauty of life and the meaning of our dedication ceremony. Whether a flower is beautiful or not, whether it comes to full bloom or not, whether it fulfills itself as a flower or not depends upon the nurturing it receives. No flower grows alone apart from the soil in which it lives. So too, no child grows alone apart from the family in which he or she lives. May the flower then be a reminder of the beauty of fulfillment and of the reward, which comes from love and understanding from teaching and example.

Written by parents for their child at a dedication:

We welcome you to the world. Your arrival has given us renewed joy, hope, and excitement. We hope life is kind to you and your time here is filled with happiness, health, love and learning. As your parents, we carry a responsibility to you and our society to pass a set of values that we feel should become part of you.

_________ never set limits to your dreams and have the courage and strength to overcome the fears and doubts that will try to hold you from reaching your dreams. During the dark days, always retain faith in your abilities. You will be tested at times. Accept your successes with graciousness and humility and give thanks for your fortunes. Use your talents for good causes, and realize that in giving you will become wealthy in all of your living.

Be supportive and helpful to your friends. The world would be lonely without them. Although you will meet a great deal of people, you will come across some enemies. Stay clear of them and never let them shake your confidence or take advantage of you.

Remember not to take life too seriously and never forget to laugh. Try to look at the positive side of things. Always live for today and never forget your roots, and know that your parents will be learning from you. The future is yours my son/daughter. May you meet its challenges successfully and enjoy the wonderment or your discoveries.

With love, your parents (mom and dad) (mom) (dad) (mom and mom) (dad and dad).
