This site is a wonderful resource for UUs who want to get more information. My husband and I are thrilled to have become full members at our local UU church, which I found right on this site on the "find a congregation" tool. Keep up the great work!

My dear friend, Royal Forest, has been a UU since she was 8 years old. I've only known her for a year but when I heard about all the things that she does for her congregation, it kind of made me curious of what was this all about and then I meet Rev. Jeanne Melis Mills, their interim minister who is leaving in June, at the local Starbucks, it really made me wonder where this two wonderful people came from. Now I know, the Unitarian Universalist church. I am so glad that I have come to two Sunday services now and met all the wonderful and dedicated UUs. They have made me felt very welcome. I hope have the same wonderful experience when I move to Washington, D.C. in September.

I am only 14(one month 'til!!) and for so long I have always wanted to belong to a true religion. I have some friends that are athiest and others that ar Christian. I never really belonged. Once one of my friends asked which church I went to and I said that I didn't attend any church. My other friend standing next to her said, "Well, maybe her mom has to work on Sundays." That's true but that's not the only reason. So many religions, if not all, usually say that other religions are wrong but themselves. For example, Christians believe in the Trinity, whereas Jewish people believe in only one true Divine God. I believe that there is no one true/right religion or belief but that there is truth in just about everything. My moto, "Believe in what you want." Unitarian Universalism has made me feel that I belong and that has truly lifted my spirits.

As a former Episcopalian who is very disillusioned with the current attitude of that group towards their fellow man based on sexual preference, I was delighted to have found your site. I plan to visit the Congregation in Dallas on Sunday. This site was very helpful in helping me to choose a place that would meet my needs. I discovered that I will have the opportunity to learn about many new things as well.

I was raised in a different tradition, and like so many others I've found my home in Unitarian Universalism. I don't need to adapt my beliefs in order to make myself fit- I just fit. Perfectly.

I joined the local UU congregation this past winter and my husband joined shortly afterwards. Our three-year-old son loves the church as much as we do. It's full of open-minded, loving, generous people with beautiful, fun spirits and open arms- which is good, because I feel like hugging them so often!

If you're looking for a place to completely be yourself, for a place to laugh openly and often, for a place to meditate on what really matters, for a place where your heart and soul can sing and you can fly...

welcome home.

Hey. This sounds like a great religion. I'm not Christian, but my mom believe's in Jesus, and is getting a bit fed-up with the Catholic Church. They recently handed out a brochure saying that same-sex marriage is a sin, and they are constantly using guilt and fear as a way to convert people. She can't take it anymore. I am trying to find another branch of Christianity that would suit her. Unitarian Universalism sounds like a good religion for her.

I haven't joined the UUA (yet), but this website has helped me a lot in learning more about it and deciding whether or not to join. If anyone reading this knows of a congregation or someone to contact in Japan, especially northern Kyushu, please let me know. (I've sent an email to the guy in Tokyo listed under Find a Congragation, but I've gotten no reply.)

Very interesting perspective and alternative for those of us with a science background, who find it difficult to accept certain aspects of the mainstream Christian churches. Having to believe and accept by faith and only by faith, closing your mind to reason. I have found myself at church (Church of the Brethdren) feeling like a fake-just filling a spot for fear at what they would say if I do not attend church and pray and read the bible to no end, without understanding the meaning, the reason for reading old scrip that answers none of my real life questions.

I am an old friend of Kim Joyner.

I am currently a freshman in college. Not long after the start of the fall semester, my ideas of the world totally changed. I could no longer relate to Catholicism, so I began to research other religions. The only religion that I am impressed by is Unitarian Universalism. I hope to become a member sometime soon. Thanks alot for helping me find myself and the religion that is right for me!

I am new to the "religion" of Uniterian Universalism but I am not new to the concepts. These are the things I have believed my entire life. I am a little sad that it took until I was 38 to find myself in a structured religion. I have tried many different denominations and they never felt right inside. A friend told me that there was a church of people who were highly intelligent seekers and he told me that I would be a perfect fit. I did the research and visited my local congregation and he was exactly right. It is a perfect fit. I know that before now the time wasn't right for me there but I look forward to a life of fulfillment and seeking and answers now that I have found a HOME.

Hi there. I'm 17 years old and for majority of my life I've never practiced any can of religion. I was brought up by thinking on my own and right and wrong decision making skills. All my friends are extremely religious and I'm constantly fighting with them about my beliefs. In my American history class we beiefly talked about Unitarian-Universalism and I really connnected to it. Since then I've been reading as much as I can on it and I'm thinking of trying to find a congregtion by me. I think it's amazing that finally I've found a religion that explains exactly how I feel. It's one of the most amazing feelings and I'm so glad that I've found this at 17 instead of 71. So I will surely be on this website more and hopefully find some new friends to talk too. Thanks and I'll be back soon.

I actually found out about you through Emode's religious compatibility test. I've "been" a christian all my life but I never really have strong belief toward it, or any religion for that matter. I never thought it would be possible to find a congregation that actually promotes open-mindedness.
Love your website. It's informative and very well-structured. Thank you for doing what you do.

I've been a christian for most of my life but lately I've found the idea of Non christians going to hell (even Ghandi) not what I believe is right. A couple of months ago I started looking for a religion that accepts my beliefs and encourages understanding and acceptance of others. I came upon the website today when trying to find out more about Unitarian Universalism. I have been brought up as a Catholic and have, for years, been disillusioned by the dogma and rhetoric of that Church - so much so that I have stopped practising any sort of formal religion. I had never heard of your Association before today. I read the FAQ on the website and it seems that I share similar beliefs to your basic principles of respecting the inherent dignity and worth of every person. It's a shame there are no UU congregations in Ireland.
Peace and respect to you all.
I urge you all to listen to the late Bill Hicks and learn from the teachings in his comedy.

We have been in a variety of "Christian" religions and somehow find the narrow approach to the world at large disturbing. We have found that many religions are exclusionary and not open to acceptance of other ideas. We also feel that the paractice of faith is a personal thing and that all people practice faith in their own way and that through deeds you show your faith.

My wife and I attended a New Age Fair at the Clarksville, TN UU Fellowship Church recently. It was great being able to communicate without being judged on looked down upon. We've both been burned numerous by traditional and fundamental christianity. Frankly, I do not personally trust clergy because of this. I have some liberal idea's concerning certain things and conservative idea's concerning other things. We were invited in and were accepted unconditionally that day. That felt wonderful! I love the website and it is very informative.

Hey everyone. Well, I'm 14 years old, and I've been doing a lot of critical, critical thinking over the past year or so about my religion. I decided that Christianity, while it has good intentions, is too restrained by a flawed Bible and not enough acceptance for me to truly believe in it. I felt that spirituality should come before religion, and that I wanted a change. I was contemplating starting my own religion when I stumbled upon UU, and I am shocked: this is EXACTLY what I've been looking for!! I feel so much better now, it's impossible to describe. I will have to learn more, but this is truly great!

As I grow older (47 years this month) I have found it harder what I feel inside and think with dogma -- I could go on for days about this. I think you could consider me a seeker -- and reading about your church (one of my professors in Grad. school was a Unitarian) picqued my interest.

A very clean, well designed and informative site in my opinion. Good color scheme and simple navigation.

Friends of mine suggested that I research the Unitaritan Church because my views regarding spirituality versus religion apparently mesh well with Unitarian Universalism. I knew precious little about Unitarianism, but enough to know that of all the historic religions I have researched, all failed when it came to tolerance of other beliefs. I am not including Bhuddism in the latter statement because it is a practice, not a religion. In any event, I do know a great deal about ancient belief systems and earth religions -- as well as a fair knowledge of philosophy, religious history, and related topics. Carl Jung, in one of his essays, stated his belief of the one, in which all life is connected and is all sacred and vital to the one. If any part of that web is removed the one suffers. Part of this, is the idea that the universe had to come into being and intelligent beings had to evolve so the one could fully understand itself. Much of this can be found in earth religio!
ns - Native American and the Celtic beliefs. Jung, or someone else, perhaps, said that Christian scholars labelled Celtic and Native American beliefs as pantheistic, when in fact it was monotheistic. All the spirits named by these cultures was nothing more than manifestations of the one. One of my favorite questions to ask pastors is: If there are ETs out there and we do encounter them and find some method to communicate, we may also learn that they have religious beliefs of their own. First, the existence of ETs alone would speak volumes about creation. How, then, should our religious leaders view their religious beliefs? In many cases, the answer is obvious, unfortuantely. Consequently, my ongoing antipathy for organized religion has not been a result of their beliefs or faith; rather, it has been a reaction to their absolute certainty, that their views are true and all others are fabrications of the devil -- and anyone who disagrees with them will surely spend eternity in Hell, etc. That is also funny, because when I have asked reborn Christians did God create Hell -- they usually respond by saying to punish sinners. I won't even begin to discuss the idea of Limbo, unborn, unbaptised and moral pagans. What I say to them is that my understanding is that Hell was created as a safety net, so even the worst of the worst of all creation will not fall into nothingness. Even they will exist, albeit, maybe not contentedly in some cases. Also, of course, I say that the punishment is really separation from God's light, not Dantean fire and brimstone -- but what do I know. I do know that Genesis, as one of many examples, can be found in an early version in the creation myth of Sumer; then it was changed slightly by the Assyrians and then the Babylonians, etc., etc. I also know many of the stories being translated from the Dead Sea Scrolls, such as the Book of Tobit, have antecedents in the stories of older, non-Christian cultures. All of this, to me, is not a bad thing. I'll admit, I don't have the answers. Who am I to say I know God's will. I know enough to say I don't know anything. Sorry for the tirade, but that is why I am researching Unitarian Universalism.
Thanks for the opportunity to ventillate a bit.

After some difficult experiences with cultish christian groups (20 years ago), I have worked hard to develop my own identiy and system of belief through questioning and rejection of ideas that didn't make sense to me. I was raised in a Bible Church that was very fundamentalist, and I rejected all the beliefts that I had held when I was in college. I kept thinking: there must be more to God and religion than a we're-right-you're wrong mentality, the judgementalistm, the guilt, the rules, heaven and hell! Now years later I am on a spiritual quest and I am happy to have discovered UUism and look forward to visiting a congregation where it's OK to be gay, have questions and doubts, and be free to explore.

Hi, I'm fourteen years old and am in a stage in my life where I'm not sure what to believe. I was raised a Christian, although I was not baptised, and am currently attending a Catholic school. Through knowledge and understanding, I have grown away from Christianity, believing that it was not right for me. Although I believed some points, I did not believe others.

I am also very fond of the theory of evolution.

I took a test that told me that United Universalism would best suit my beliefs, and I now know that is true. I am very eager to learn more about this religion and I believe that someday soon, I may become a member of this church.

Have a background in philosophy, which is very intertwined with religion. But philosophy text as a whole has many many conflicting messages with any set religion. It's nice to see a movement established that opens the door for all to search for the "truth".

I was brought up in a Jewish home. One parent was Orthodox, the other Reform. Each family would have nothing to do with the other. I was brought up "Reformed". Did not become active in Religion. Can not get myself to believe most of what is in the Old Testament. Believe there is a G-d and Ten Comandments. Know almost nothing about New Testament.

Just like LaKisha I took a test that determined what religion I should practice based on my beliefs. At first I didn't believe it, mostly because I had never heard of the religion before, but them I found this website and began reading about it and it made sense. I was raised in a Christian church and a few years ago I joined a Lutheran church but for many years I have had questions that no one in either congregation has been able to answer. I questioned things that I felt I shouldn't due to my religion but after searching through this site and reading about UU, I feel like UU could really be what I have been lookng for. This site is great. Thank you so much.

I took a silly "religious" test on a new website today, and it turned up with this congregation I had never even heard of. Instead of purchasing the expensive newsletter about my perfect fit faith, I hopped over here and found a wealth of knowledge. I never knew what I was missing! My husband and I are in agreement that we need more connection in our spiritual lives. It is so hard for me to tell my son about Jesus, when I still have so many doubts about my childhood Christian faith. And with the birth of our new daughter, I am even more anxious to find something to believe in, completely and whole-heartedly. I am so thankful I have found this website. I truly wish to become a member soon.

I see the Unitarian Universalist Church as a new phase in an individual's life. A person is born ignorant of all issues. First he believes in Mother and Father, later in Santa Claus, later in heaven and hell and a specific religion as per the teachings of other individuals. If the individual cares to continue his own development and search UUA seems to be a valid option for this further human development. UUA seems to have an added advantage of attempting to unite the beliefs on the entire world which to me looks very good. Decreasing to amount of international and multinational prejudice seems to be quite a project. I sincerery hope this objective can be obtained. Wish everyone out there the very best in life.

Very informative site. I have neglected my faithful "self" and began to inquire on different beliefs and organizations out there. I had heard about Universalist Unitairianism through a previous co-worker who attends a church in Florida. She was explaining a little about priniciples and beliefs they had and it sounded interesting to me. Five years later and after the birth of my son I began to think about the necessity of faith and support and bringing up my child with the resources he will need in this world and thereafter. I am now living in California and seeking to go to church and obtain more information. The site was very helpful. Thanks.
